An antique copper engraving of actor Mr Edward Fitzwilliam (1788 - 1852) as Looney Mactwolter in The Review, at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane.
Engraved by R Cooper after the sketch by F Waldeck, published by H Berthoud in 1822. Edward Fitwilliam joined the regular company at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane in 1821, after spending the earlier part of his career playing in various provincial theatres. He played O'Rourke O'Daisy in Hit of Miss. From this time on his reputation dwindled, and he found himself playing one Irish part after another, including Looney Mactwolter in The Review.
Around 1845 he retired on an annuity from the Drury Lane Theatrical Fund, and died at his house in Regent St in 1852.
