A hand coloured, antique stipple engraving of the Georgian actor John Quick. Engraved by Ridley after Dupont, and published by Verner & Hood in 1802. Here we see Quick as the character Spado, from The Castle of Andalusia. John Quick (1748 - 1831) was an incredibly busy and well known actor, specialising mainly in comic roles. He left home at the age of 13 to work in the theatre, and had a long and profitable career, retiring in around 1813, after more than 50 years of work, with the huge sum of £10,000. He lived off the interest until his death at home in 1831. Mounted. Unframed.
