An antique aquatint in original colours of the Royal Chain Pier, Brighton, by T Sutherland after the drawing by J Cordwell, and published by the artist, Great East St, Brighton, June 1st 1824. The Chain Pier was opened in 1823, and was unusual in that it was a suspension pier. It was destroyed in a storm in 1896. The remains of some of the structure is still visible at very low tide.
