A fine copper engraving depicting the defeat of the Spanish Armada in 1588.
Off the coast of Gravelines, France, Spain’s so-called “Invincible Armada” is defeated by an English naval force under the command of Lord Charles Howard and Sir Francis Drake. After eight hours of furious fighting, a change in wind direction prompted the Spanish to break off from the battle and retreat toward the North Sea. This print was engraved by WH Worthington after the painting by Philipp Jacob Loutherbourg (1740-1812), aka Philip James de Loutherbourg, published by R Bowyer in 1805. Hand coloured. Mounted. Ready to frame.

Print size: 32.5cm x 26.5cm
Mount size: 52cm x 48.5cm
