A hand coloured, antique steel engraving of the University Press, also known as the Pitt Press. Drawn by Frederick Mackenzie, engraved by John Le Keux and published circa 1858.
The building, in Trumpington St, was completed in 1832 in the Gothic style.
Cambridge University Press has published the works of many of the greatest minds including John Milton, Isaac Newton, Einstein, Rutherford, Bertrand Russell and Stephen Hawking. The Pitt Press building was completed using funds that remained in surplus after the statue to William Pitt had been commissioned from public donation - hence the alternative name - The Pitt Press.
