A hand coloured, antique steel engraving of a view of Twysill Castle on the Tweed, North Durham (now Northumberland).
Twysill (now known as Twizell) Castle is located south west of Berwick on Tweed.
It fell into disrepair over the centuries.
From about 1770, Sir Francis Blake (d. 1780) worked on the recreation of the castle as a Gothic Revival mansion, however it was never finished. When the Blakes decided to build a new mansion at Tillmouth Park, much of the castle was demolished and the stone used in the new building. The castle now stands as a 2 storey folly.
